I was born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and now live in rural Nova Scotia with my wife and two children.
I served 17-years in the Canadian Armed Forces, first as an Infantry Officer, followed by eight-years in the Canadian Special Operations Forces. I was honoured to lead incredible Canadian service members on multiple deployments to Afghanistan, Iraq, and the Middle East. In 2019, I retired from the military as a Major.
After my military service, I had the privilege of leading the team at Farnam Street Media as the CEO, before opening this practice in 2021.
I founded August to bring together everything I'd learned from the military, private industry, elite sport, and my graduate work in social-organizational psychology.
At the heart of my work is a genuine fascination with leadership and organizational culture. I spend an almost laughable amount of time searching for and studying exceptional leaders and organizations around the world, looking for the hyper-specific and actionable habits, behaviours, and cultural principles they have in common. My goal is simple: to bring those lessons to my clients in ways that they can apply immediately.
My educational background includes:
A BA in Military and Strategic Studies from the Royal Military College of Canada, the Ivey Executive Program at the Ivey Business School, and in 2016 I was selected as the first international student to attend the U.S. Army’s Eisenhower Leadership Development Program at Columbia University where I received an MA in Social-Organizational Psychology.
Other pursuits:
I write poetry and serve as a Contributing Editor for Canada’s Poetry Magazine, Arc Poetry.
I volunteer as a leader development mentor with RMC's Athena Mentorship Network.
And, I steward protected lands as a Wilderness Property Guardian for the Nova Scotia Nature Trust.
